Tips for the Beginner

When you purchase a freshwater tropical Aquarium. Consider the following...

  • Purchase an aquarium that you have room for and can afford.
  • Choose a location in a room. Try to avoid putting an aquarium by doors and windows.
  • Put the aquarium in an open area, (not hiding behind anything.)
  • Wash the aquarium with clean water; do not use soap or any other chemicals.
  • Make sure to leave at least six inches behind the aquarium.
  • Select the right equipment for your size of tank. You will need a filter, heater, lighting, gravel, and ornaments.
  • Wash all equipment with clean water; Remember, do not use soap or any other chemicals when washing.
  • Fill the aquarium with cool water, then add Professional Chlorinex.
  • Wait two weeks after filling the aquarium with water to add fish, during those 2 weeks get information on tropical marine fish.
  • Before adding fish have your aquarium tested for pH, Ammonia, and nitrite levels. If all are ok add fish, if not add Stress Zyme or pH up then wait another week, and then add fish.
  • Do not purchase fish all at once; buy a small amount every time to avoid fish disease.
  • Do not purchase fish from the same tank where any fish are dead or dying.
  • When purchasing Observe fish carefully for damaged fins, and look for anything that could be wrong with the fish.
  • After purchasing the fish let the bag float in the water for 20 minutes.
  • Buy one or two buckets for water changes. Acquire a siphon to clean gravel.
